Award-winning venue and charity, Millennium Point welcomed over 1000 local school children to try the tech of tomorrow at their free SciTECH Showcase event on 10 June. The students enjoyed live science shows, interactive workshops and guest talks from technology leaders.
An array of prominent organisations joined the event, including Thinktank, Birmingham City University, Kelia, University of Birmingham, Footprints The Silicone Centre, and The University of Warwick, to deliver interactive activities and information on tech roles. Abbie Vlahakis, CEO of Millennium Point, expressed her enthusiasm for the SciTECH Showcase: “It is hugely exciting to showcase the wonders of tech careers to local school groups and hopefully inspire future tech pioneers to change the world.”
The SciTECH Showcase was the third of Millennium Point’s annual Sci events for local schools, helping to improve access to STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) jobs for local young people. This year’s event highlighted roles such as programmers, data analysts and app developers via fun activities. It is the latest way the venue has empowered young people in the West Midlands having delivered over £40 million in support to STEM education in the region.
