The Cottage in the Wood Malvern awarded 4 stars by AA

The Cottage in the Wood Malvern has been awarded the prestigious four-star accreditation by AA.

Following an inspection from the AA Hotel quality assessment scheme, the refurbished 32-bedroom hotel has officially been accredited as a four-star property, with the 1919 Restaurant already holding two AA rosettes.  

Nick Davies, owner of The Cottage in the Wood Malvern, said: “We are so proud to have been given a four-star listing by AA. Our multimillion-pound refurbishment programme allowed us to upgrade the hotel’s standards, resulting in the complete redesign of the entire hotel and restaurant.  AA recognised and rewarded our establishments for the quality and range of services and facilities, and the whole team is very proud of our new status.”

Commenting in the report, the AA inspector said: “Hospitality and service proved a considerable strength with a positive and guest orientated approach displayed by all members of staff throughout the course of the visit.

All public areas appeared in very good order with the well decorated and furnished bar and lounge areas being very comfortable, work and investment here impressive and gives a real cool feel throughout.”

Nick and his wife Julia bought the hotel in 2015, investing £2.4 million into the three-phase refurbishment of the Georgian property, creating an award-winning boutique destination hotel, bar and restaurant.

The hotel spreads across three separate buildings, individually designed with distinctive features and quirky art to reflect the building’s elegance and history, with olive and sage interiors mirroring the peaceful surroundings and dramatic views.

Taking F&B to the next level, head chef Rob Mason, who joined the team in 2020, has brought to life the culinary vision of the team, winning the Taste of Worcestershire award in 2021. The latest innovation includes the launch of a seven-course tasting menu as part of the daily dinner service, using the larder of Worcestershire to showcase the top quality, local produce of the area.
