Peasants and Proverbs

About

Discover Pieter Brueghel the Younger (1564 – 1637/38) as you have never seen him before – in this reassessment of the artist as skilled craftsman, accomplished copyist and savvy businessman.

The star of the show will be Barber favourite 'Two Peasants binding Firewood' (pictured). The comical and colourful painting will be joined by three other versions of this composition, offering a unique insight into Brueghel's creative processes and sharp entrepreneurial mind-set.

Exhibition co-curator and Barber Acting Director Robert Wenley, says: 'this exhibition will take the visitor on a fascinating journey into the past – but with lessons for our own time.'

The temporary exhibition will feature paintings, drawings, etchings and engravings from galleries and collections in the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium and the Czech Republic.
