Brum130: Beyond Bricks and Mortar

Victoria Square, BIRMINGHAM, West Midlands, B1 1BD
Brum130: Beyond Bricks and Mortar

Birmingham’s iconic Council House in Victoria Square is taken over with digital projections and performance, as we celebrate the City’s 130th birthday.

In January 1889, Birmingham was officially granted City status. In the 130 years that have followed, Birmingham has grown into a diverse, vibrant and confident place to live and work. In this special pop-up event, the spirit of the City and its people are captured with projections onto the Council House by visual artist Mohammed Ali, who has spent time immersed in neighbourhoods across the city, filming people and places. The film goes beyond bricks and mortar to tell the stories of the people who make the city of Birmingham.

The event kicks off with performances from local artists ShenâiACE Dance & MusicKey InfinityTarju Le'Sano & Mickael Marso Riviere, directed by Steady Steadman. Through atmospheric vocals, dance and spoken word these performances share the performers' history with the city and celebrate Birmingham today.

Creative Directors: Mohammed Ali & Steady Steadman.
