Nigerian artist Abdulrazaq Awofeso discusses his Ikon exhibition, OUT OF FRAME, with researcher, writer and curator Dr Jareh Das. Together they consider Awofeso's installations as reflections on human migration and his own frequent journeys between Nigeria, South Africa and Europe.
This event is part of The Migrant Festival 2022 and Ikon's Arrivals programme for Summer 2022, concerned with the international movement of people and ideas and organised to coincide with the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
About the speakers
Abdulrazaq Awofeso's recent exhibitions include Dakar Biennale (2016), STEVENSON, Cape Town (2016), Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (2017–18), MAXXI, the National Museum of 21st Century Arts Rome (2018) and Museum Arnhem (2020).
Dr Jareh Das' curated exhibition, Body Vessel Clay (2022), at Two Temple Place, London, surveyed how ceramics have been disrupted, questioned and reimagined by Black women over the last seventy years, beginning with Nigerian potter Ladi Kwali. Viewing modern and contemporary global art through the lens of performance art, Das has contributed to a wide range of international publications online and in print.
