Work starts on new hotels and restaurant
5th Jan 2011
Sanguine Hospitality Management is beginning work on two new hotels and a new Marco Pierre White restaurant in Birmingham city centre.
Due to open in Summer 2011, the new four-star Hotel Indigo will be on floors 23 and 24 of The Cube, one of the city’s newest developments. Hotel Indigo is a boutique-style hotel concept new to the UK from the Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) brand stable and will be owned and operated by Sanguine. The hotel will also include a club & spa which will feature a wet area comprising a hydrotherapy pool, five thermal treatments rooms, a state-of-the-art gymnasium and a ten-room luxury spa.
Sanguine Hospitality will also run Marco Pierre White’s Steakhouse Bar and Grill as part of the £10million development. This will be the chef’s first venture in the city.
Sanguine managing director, Nick Taplin, said: “Birmingham has a fantastic tourism offer and we will benefit from the high volume of corporate and leisure visits. We have no doubt that The Cube will become the place to eat, sleep and be seen when visiting the city.”
Sanguine have also acquired Cumberland House tower, located on Broad Street in the heart of the city centre, within walking distance to The ICC. The building will undergo a £30m transformation into a 285-bedroom Hampton by Hilton hotel, the largest in the chain’s Europe operations.
There will also be meeting facilities for up to 30 delegates, a gym and free wi-fi throughout public areas and bedrooms.
The hotel is scheduled for completion in summer 2012 following an 18-month refurbishment and joins other Hampton by Hiltons in Shrewsbury and Star City, Birmingham.
