Visitors join together to celebrate Birmingham as culinary hot spot

5th Aug 2010

Thousands of food fans gathered in Cannon Hill Park last weekend to enjoy the city’s fifth Taste of Birmingham festival. Visitors flocked to enjoy sample size dishes from 16 restaurants and discover the best of the region’s food from over 80 local producers.

Visitors also had the chance to learn culinary secrets in a series of masterclasses, demonstrations and guest appearances from top local chefs including Luke Tipping, Richard Turner and star of the BBC’s Great British Menu Will Holland.

New for 2010 was the Angela Malik cookery class which attracted large audiences. The chef brought highlights from her London cookery school to Taste of Birmingham, enabling visitors to learn how to cook some of her signature Asian dishes including Pad Thai and Goan Curry.

Ian Taylor, Commercial Director at Marketing Birmingham said:
“We’re pleased with the turn out this year, especially as figures show that visitors have stayed longer than in previous years to make the most of the event. This year’s festival had a packed offering from restaurants and local producers to masterclasses and live music. The Taste of Birmingham team is now already planning another great event for 2011!”
