1st Jun 2012

The International Special Events Society (ISES) continues physically and virtually its expansion beyond London with the first SIMVENT (simultaneous events) for the event professionals in London and Birmingham, held at the NEC.

The UK Chapter of the International Special Events Society (ISES) once again demonstrated its reach to events professionals throughout the UK and its extensive international connections with its first SIMVENT (simultaneous linked events) on Tuesday 29th May.

Video links from the lead event at the NEC in Birmingham (ISES second regional event in Birmingham) connected a gathering of London based event professionals at Altitude 360 with a leading member of the ISES Chapter in Vancouver.

Forty-five of the event elite from the Midlands and 25 in London heard Eileen Bistrisky, representing ISES in Canada; explain how ISES members can leverage and gain knowledge from the international connections to support their business. ISES Vancouver Chapter members had hosted ISES member visitors from London during the 2010 Winter Olympics who experienced and learnt valuable lessons for this summer. She noted how the ISES network is extremely valuable when sourcing trusted local suppliers or making business contacts this applies as much to Birmingham from London as Vancouver from New York.

Hosted by ISES UK President, Jonathan Byrne in Birmingham, MadsionSoho, a full service venue and destination marketing agency, enlightened the Regional Event about the Power of Social Media emphasising the importance of a focused strategy; developing the right tone of voice for your audience, preparing for potential crisis and calls to action, for example, Facebook Offers.

Simultaneously at Altitude 360 in London, Jane Hague, ISES UK VP Communications introduced, Peter Kerwood, Marketing Director, who expanded on How to Amplify Events via Social Media utilising new tools – including Pinterest which generates more traffic than Twitter, Linked In and Google+ combined or Followerwonk for cultivating Social Media connectivity.

Stephen Richards, Venue Sales Director at the NEC, said ‘ We recognise that creative activity is at the heart of experiential marketing and so we were really pleased to host this event for ISES. The Midlands has a very strong presence of skilled creative event practitioners and they need a need a forum like this to meet and share best practise and garner new ideas.

Katie Pearce, General Manager, Off to Work Birmingham, commented “ I’ve learnt so much from the event and get more and more excited about the warmth and welcome ISES members share with fellow members.”
