Birmingham is in Manchester this week to showcase the city at the Conservative Party Conference. A host of organisations, coordinated by Marketing Birmingham, is working in partnership on a stand at the four day conference to promote the city in preparation for its arrival in Birmingham next year.

The stand offers information about Birmingham and accommodation booking for next year’s delegates. Representatives from a wide range of city organisations will be there to promote Birmingham’s position as a business destination and its economic strengths. These companies include Marketing Birmingham, Birmingham City Council, the ICC, Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, Birmingham Forward, Birmingham International Airport and the NHS Birmingham East and North.

The Conservative Party Conference will take place in Birmingham at the ICC from 4th to 7th October in 2010. It is estimated that in delegate spend and media attention the conference could be worth some £20m to the local economy.

Councillor Mike Whitby, Leader Birmingham City Council says:

“It’s a real coup for Birmingham that the Conservative Party has decided to hold two of their conferences in the city, and we’re delighted to welcome them back after the success of 2008. Birmingham has an unparalleled reputation for organising first-class events, and this is supported by our Team Birmingham approach.

“We’re pleased that the Conservative Party nationally is recognising what we are doing locally, and we look forward to giving them a warm welcome next year.”

Conservative Party Chairman, Eric Pickles MP said:

“Following on from the success of last year’s conference in Birmingham, we’re delighted to be returning to the city in 2010. Birmingham was the perfect host with excellent conference facilities and accommodation for our delegates as well as great bars and restaurants. Everything was geared towards supporting the conference and welcoming it to the city. We’re looking forward to a similarly successful event in Birmingham next year.”

TBC Neil Rami, Marketing Birmingham’s Chief Executive added: “The economic impact of the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham next year is extremely significant for the city. The conference will also help to maintain Birmingham’s position on the national agenda as a city which successfully hosts major events.”

The Birmingham stand at the Conservative Party Conference, Manchester, consists of city representatives as follows: Marketing Birmingham, Birmingham City Council, Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, Birmingham Forward, Birmingham Future, Centro, Aston University, University of Birmingham, Birmingham City University, Birmingham International Airport, NHS Birmingham East and North and the ICC.
