Birmingham most popular UK city outside the capital

Recently published research carried out by CAT Publications has revealed Birmingham to be the most popular conference and events destination in the UK outside of London.

The British Meetings and Events industry Survey 2010 revealed that Birmingham was more popular with both association and corporate markets, and was 10% more popular than Manchester, which took third postion.

The research also indicated geographical location and accessibility via transport networks to be key influencing factors when selecting a venue. Being located in the heart of England at the centre of the UK’s transport network, 98% of the market live within a four-hour drive of Birmingham. A £600m redevelopment of New Street Station with further enhance the city’s transport links, and the proposals for HS2 mean that Birmingham’s accessibility will continute to develop in the coming years.
