Birmingham Convention Bureau scoops top tourism award

Birmingham Convention Bureau (BCB) has scooped Gold in a prestigious regional tourism awards. BCB received the top honour for Best Convention Bureau in Birmingham and the Black Country at the ceremony held at the ICC last night.

The annual Heart of England Excellence in Tourism Awards celebrates the best of the regions tourism across Birmingham, The Black Country, Staffordshire, Coventry and Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Shropshire and Herefordshire.

Ian Taylor, commercial director at Marketing Birmingham, says:

“We’re delighted to receive this award which recognises the work of the Birmingham Convention Bureau. Our aim is to position Birmingham as a global events city, and BCB has worked with organisations across the city to attract and host major conferences and events, such as the Rotary International Convention and the Conservative Party Conference. We’re already planning ahead for the return of the Conservative Party Conference next year as well as the Liberal Democrat Party Spring Conference.”

The Heart of England Excellence in Tourism Awards judges commented: “Birmingham Convention Bureau provides a very high quality service and offers a range of venues for all budgets. Their commitment to Customer Service and Excellence is constantly maintained through a dedicated and committed team, and they have an excellent reputation for organising and hosting political party conferences as well as many internationally renowned conventions”.

Brian Summers, chairman of Tourism West Midlands said, “The calibre of the winners is the highest I have ever seen. The wonderful ceremony last night made me very proud to be involved in tourism – which is truly at the heart of the West Midlands’ economy and culture.”

As gold winners, BCB will be entered into the national Enjoy England Awards to represent the West Midlands in early 2010.
