Birmingham – are you ready?

Birmingham Convention Bureau (BCB) met Nick Clegg, leader of the Liberal Democrats, at the party’s conference this week.

BCB was at the Liberal Democrats Conference in Bournemouth from 19 – 23 September to profile Birmingham as host city for the Spring conference in 2010, and saw hundreds of people visit the stand over the five days for visitor information and accommodation booking.

Mr. Clegg visited the stand during the conference and said he was looking forward to his party’s visit to Birmingham next year, remarking saying: ‘We’re hugely looking forward to coming to the city – is Birmingham ready for us?’

Ian Taylor, commercial director at Marketing Birmingham, said:

“We’re confident we will be fully prepared to welcome Nick Clegg and his party in March next year. We are now firmly on the map regarding political conferences, which support our overall aim to cement our status as a leading global events destination. With both the Liberal Democrats and Conservatives here in 2010 there is a real buzz about Birmingham as it consolidates its reputation for attracting these big name events.”

The Spring conference, taking place in March 2010, is expected to attract more than 2,000 delegates to the city and will once again fix the eyes of the media and business leaders firmly on Birmingham.
