Roundtable Discussion
Meet Birmingham, in association with Radisson Blu, hosted the ‘Event City of the Future’ roundtable breakfast event to launch its groundbreaking report with some of the key figures in the business events sector.
Chaired by industry commentator Richard John from meetingsreview.com, guests Ian Taylor (Commercial Director, Marketing Birmingham), Kathryn James (Managing Director, NEC Group), Paul Byrom (Managing Director, Upper Street Events Ltd), Barbara Blow (Divisional Director, TFI Meeting Point), Chris Pike (General Manager, Radisson Blu) and Liz Carnell (Sales Director, The ICC) debated a range of key findings and issues from the survey.
John asked the assembled panel a number of questions:
- Is there any sign that virtual events will do away with face-to-face meetings?
- Should Wi-Fi be made free to organisers at events?
- What role does the social media world have in the events sector?
- How much pressure are we under with budgets?
- On the issue of technology, is the phrase that event managers “don’t know what they don’t know” significant? Do they understand what’s available to them with technology? Are meeting planners clued up enough?
- What has been the most significant finding from the report for you?
