Liberal Democrats Spring Conference 2010
The Liberal Democrats spring conference took place at the ICC in Birmingham from 12th – 14th March 2010. The conference was a vitally important event for the Liberal Democrats, being the party’s last conference before the general election, and was hailed a great success with more than 2,000 delegates descending on the city over the three days. The conference was brought to the city by the combined efforts of ‘Team Birmingham’ which saw Birmingham City Council, Marketing Birmingham, West Midlands Police, The NEC Group and other key organisations working in partnership to secure the conference in 2011 and showcase the city.
The Liberal Democrat Party spring conference put Birmingham firmly on the map as a world class events destination. The city’s expertise and warm welcome was widely acknowledged and made a lasting impression. The event saw more than £1.8 million spent in hotels, restaurants, bars and attractions with an overall economic impact, including media value, of more than £2.3 million on the city.
Birmingham was put firmly in the media spotlight throughout the duration of the Liberal Democrats spring conference, establishing the city as first choice when it comes to events and showcasing the vast range of Birmingham’s attractions. A dedicated website was created to secure the hotel bookings through the Birmingham Convention Bureau who provided delegates with expert advice and discount vouchers allowing them to explore the city further and interact with local communities.
With the Liberal Democrats Party returning to Birmingham for their autumn conference in 2011, the city’s political conference success looks set to continue.
