Herefordshire

Hereford Cider Museum

Herefordshire and The Wye Valley is a county of unspoilt countryside, market towns of distinctive character and a wealth of varied landscapes from a historic city to fascinating villages. This is a captivating region where events, festivals, activities and food and drink create a strong sense of place which grips artists and craftspeople.

As well as glorious scenery, there’s lots to do to revive your spirits. Visit one of the county’s many historic houses and castles; there are plenty to choose from including Berrington Hall, Croft Castle, Dore Abbey, Hampton Court & Gardens and the spectacular Eastnor Castle.

Local museums capture the rich heritage of this historic county. Hereford Museum and Art Gallery is always hugely popular with visitors, while the Market House Heritage Centre in Ross on Wye and Ledbury Heritage Centre give a fascinating glimpse into the past.

A visit to any of Herefordshire’s many market towns is a real treat in itself, with an opportunity to browse through traditional shops before enjoying a delicious lunch in a local pub. After that, you’ll probably be ready for a walk to take in the stunning landscapes that have made the county so famous. The tradition of cider making in Herefordshire stretches back some 350 years – and the Cider Route is a great way to take in the lovely countryside of the region.

There’s also the Black & White Village Trail: a 40-mile driving route through some of the prettiest villages and rural scenery in England. The circular trail leads west from the ancient town of Leominster, through a rich landscape of orchards, hopyards and distant hills, taking in the most picturesque black and white villages along the way.
