About Birmingham

Named as the UK’s most popular conference and events destination outside London by the British Meetings and Events Industry Survey 2017/18, Birmingham is where the world meets.

The city welcomes major events and visitors like no other. With undeniable connectivity, located at the heart of the UK, more than 36,000 bed spaces available for delegates and an incredible range of world-class venues and state-of-the-art facilities, Birmingham continues to be the city of choice for both national and international conferences and events.

Last year, Birmingham attracted a record 39 million visitors, a 2.5% increase on 2015’s figures. Birmingham also achieved more than one million international visits, the largest growth of any city outside London for the second consecutive year.

Birmingham has a rich diversity, and the confidence to enjoy expressing it. Over the past decade, Birmingham’s food scene has seen the city transform itself into the ultimate dining destination. Birmingham has more Michelin-starred restaurants than any other English city outside London. From the iconic Selfridges building to the Jewellery Quarter district of the city, from where an incredible 40% of all UK jewellery originates, Birmingham is one of the shopping capitals of Europe. The city’s retail sector was transformed in 2015, when it welcomed premium shopping complex Grand Central, including one of the largest John Lewis department stores in the country.

Birmingham’s arts scene includes the stunning Symphony Hall, with its resident orchestra the CBSO (City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra). The region’s exciting history has also left visitors with a number of exciting attractions to discover, including Cadbury World, the National Trust Back to Backs and the Black Country Living Museum.

More people than ever before are talking about Birmingham, and why not, there’s so much to say! Over recent years, there has been an incredible change in the city – including the opening of Europe’s largest library, the £600 million redevelopment of New Street station and the Resorts World complex at The NEC, the UK’s first integrated leisure destination leisure complex.

Furthermore, we continue to offer outstanding event support through our Birmingham Convention Bureau, with benefits to both organisers and delegates. Our aim to make sure every visitor to Birmingham receives the best possible welcome, and has a fantastic time while they are here.
